UCAS applications for England up 7.1% for 2007

The latest UCAS statistics published today (14 February 2007) show that the number of people applying to full-time undergraduate courses in England has increased by 7.1%.

Commenting on the figures Sir Martin Harris, Director of OFFA, said

‘This is good news. We are still only part way through the admissions cycle but the January figures show that the strong upward trend in university applications continues. Although there were fears from many commentators that the introduction of variable fees would put potential students off, this has clearly not been the case.

‘The introduction of more generous Government student support arrangements alongside extensive university and college bursaries and scholarships have ensured that students are well supported during their studies and, in particular, there is significant non-repayable money available to lower income students.’
