Dr Penelope Griffin is Head of Widening Participation at the University of Nottingham, with over 12 years’ experience in policy development, change implementation and programme management in relation to widening participation, admissions, and fees and funding.
In addition, since 2010, she has been Policy Lead of the Bridge Group, an independent policy association promoting social mobility through higher education. Penelope supports developments in contextual admissions and facilitated entry pathways; this includes a secondment as Professional Consultant to the Admissions to Higher Education Review (2003-2004), chaired by Professor Steven Schwartz.
She has led the Russell Group Association for Widening Participation on a number of initiatives, the most recent being an application for funding as a collaborative network. A New Zealander, Penelope worked in widening participation policy and planning at the University of South Australia, a new university with a strong track record in widening participation, before moving to England in January 2000.
