Notes on exceptions:

Sandwich year students – can only be charged half the maximum fee during their sandwich year. The minimum bursary requirement also does not apply in the sandwich year. However, institutions can choose to pay bursaries in sandwich years if they wish.

Fifth year+ medical students – receive an NHS bursary from their fifth year onwards.

Nursing, physiotherapy and other students on qualifying medical courses – receive an NHS bursary for entire length of their study.
